With all the talk about “blue seats” and “blue voters” I fear most are missing the real issue. This is not just about Democrat voter disenfranchisement; We’re seeing black majority districts have their voters diluted into pools that will deprive the black community of fair representation at the state and federal level.

So much in USA political analysis treats this nation as a Democrat v. Republican turf war; failing to consider what those seats mean. When the Black community calls to fix issues that are killing their people (#BlackLivesMatter); and the majority-white neolib Democrats brush them off… this is why.

Beyond the seat colors, redistricting leads to groups being branded irrelevant. When a 75% black district is split into three regions and merged to supermajority white districts, that community effectively loses their voice. That is why we have the Voting Rights Act.

Yes and since they are gutting the unintended consequences rules, they are allowed to redistribute for political reasons. So if they say it’s to eliminate a Democratic district, it’s legal. But if they admit it’s to eliminate a black district it still violates what’s left of the voting rights act Blame John Roberts and Mitch McConnell. This has been their plan for decades.

It’s actually the opposite. The VRA creating a requirement for a minority district is now unconstitutional, so the LA legislature were “compelled” to eliminate it. And gerrymandering for political reasons is strictly legal, so they can crack the black vote without consequences

Creating or removing it for race reasons are both illegal.

Political persuasion isn’t a protected class, even though it is probably fundamental to many people’s identity. For better or worse.

One takeaway is rhat the Democrat party is failing us and it needs to be replaced with something more attuned to the needs of today’s voters. Definitely not Republican, either.

It’s not possible to replace the democrats. It is possible to change them. It’s slow and frustrating. But the trick is to reward the correct steps. When people just say ‘they’re the same’ and refuse to vote for Dems because they’re not good enough, not only does that leave us with maga in power, which is obviously worse, but it also makes the Dems not see any votes available by starting to move towards the left, so they go the other way.

This will not work unless Citizens United is eliminated. Even if we do it now, we’re probably already past the event horizon of complete corruption.

Surely the Supreme Court will apply their recent opinions on off-cycle redistricting evenhandedly

Corruption is practically the default in Louisiana- its worse than most third world banana republics down there.

I hope a sea of data centers come to this state so that they have no water and their power bills are 10x higher. Have the day you voted for.
