Brussels says the EU must grow, but resistance within the bloc remains strong, with some arguing that it must reform before enlarging. Montenegro remains the only country with a realistic chance of joining soon.

    I bet that any extension of EU would come with demands of reform, to prevent situations like the ones Hungary and Slovakia created to prevent help to Ukraine. Also to have better legal tools when a member state brakes regulation, that undermine their own democracy. Like we have seen in for instance Hungary and Poland.

    And that is going to be a tough one, because it cannot be done without member states losing a bit of rights as independent nations.

    I trust we will find a balanced solution, because EU member states generally recognize that this is necessary, and we need EU to function now more than ever.

      Ireland already joined. Scotland can’t since they’re not a sovereign nation. Might be one if the SNP get their way though.
