Others have pointed out that RCP8.5 was never particularly plausible, and have criticized claims that the move away from using these scenarios reflects actual progress on reducing emissions.

We can just stop there.

I personally consider RCP8.5 as a scenario which might be useful to think of in the context of accelerated warming or emissions from triggering some tipping points. Modeling chaos is not practical.
