politics @lemmy.world•Mamdani's New York is coming to tax your private jet.
14·10 days agoThey are scared. Good.
What Smart Operators Are Doing Now
- Charter, don’t own — for New York trips. Ownership-based taxes require an owner. Charter clients flying on a per-trip basis have structural insulation from registration, basing, and ownership surcharges.
- Move your aircraft out of New York. If your aircraft is currently based or registered in New York State, that is your single largest exposure point. Florida, Pennsylvania, and New Hampshire are the most common rebasing destinations. Act before the rule is written.
- Know your airports. Teterboro (TEB) remains operationally superior but are Port Authority facilities and therefore in scope. Westchester (HPN) is the most insulated option available.
- Watch Albany, not just City Hall. Mamdani’s ability to implement airport-level taxes requires coordination with Governor Hochul and the New Jersey governor’s office. Monitor state budget negotiations closely.

Climate@slrpnk.net•How do I invest in green tech initiatives and companies?2·14 days agoWhere does that leave you? Use your money and invest in yourself, your home, your family, possibly build a doomsday bunker or a self sustaining farmstead.
With what money, my dude? My home? You must be joking. Family? I don’t see how giving them money is “investing”.
build a doomsday bunker or a self sustaining farmstead
Again, with what money? That’s the purpose of investing.
Your suggestions make me think you are rich enough to live in a different world. Suggesting investing a home…

Buy European@feddit.uk•DeGoogled phones, made in Europe: Fairphone, Volla, SHIFTphone, Punkt – a full review.
1·5 months agoWe live in a globalised world. To demand a “pure” X phone is simply ludicrous. Children mine many important minerals with little to no protection in west African countries, and if it’s not children, it’s probably Uyghurs or some other minority for the rare earth metals, the chips are made in multiple countries but mostly China and Taiwan using Dutch machines, assembled by suicidal hand in East and Central Asian countries, and sold in Europe. And that’s not even all parts of the supply chain! Nearly every single link exploits one person or another, the money is used to lobby or forcefully keep the status quo in said country while making mostly already wealth Westerners rich.
To have a purely European phone, you’d probably have to pay 5k at least for the phone. Every European country’s citizens will resist mining in their country because they are acutely aware of the environmental damage it does and who will get rich from it, but they will gleefully buy the same product made under horrible conditions in other countries and not bat an eye when asked if it’s hypocritical. “At least it wasn’t my backyard”.
Yes! It’s a great Google Apps alternative. What’s missing is public transport schedules.
There’s a General Transit Feed Specification (GTFS) which is an open data standard for transit passenger information. It was developed in the US, but maybe it could be used in the EU too if it doesn’t have a European alternative? We could all email or @ the public transport companies of our areas and ask them to publish these. Or even @ the @EUCommission@ec.social-network.europa.eu here and on other social media.
Public money, public data, public code.
Edit: holy shit, GTFS was developed by Google! It might be how public transit systems world wide are publishing to Google! We should tell our public transit systems to make that data open to everybody, not just google!
aka how not to do it. Hopefully the EU doesn’t copy-paste this.
