351·7 days agothis is just reclassifying ‘digital’ software as taxable. the same as software on physical media already is in california. some states have a similar tax status for these products.
many states already did the same with digital video and streaming.
i don’t really see a problem with it.

6·9 days agomy 1st gen is still going. it’s i7 and 32gb ram so still plenty good for what i need it to do (hell, so is the older athlon next to it, ftm), even with the unsupported ‘upgrade’ and ancient hdd for boot and storage. i have a spare identical mb and cpu, just in case. i have better systems, i just like that one. we have a long history together and everything is right where i want, and expect, it to be.

exemption won’t really matter in the end. for sites and services that ‘rely’ on these bullshit verifications–linux will be a non-conforming, non-participant. and you won’t be able to access those things from linux… not unlike how rooted & 3rd party firmware phones are treated now by many financial and streaming apps.
