State wide elections go first, and you get a situation like Georgia where the at large elections can go either way but the state legislature and congressional delegation are still gerrymandered to hell for Republicans.
Then you get a tipping point like Virginia when the state legislature goes blue and then it’s a blue state, and you can finally work to get some problems resolved.
San Antonio is the 7th largest city in the country, (soon to be the sixth) we have surpassed Philadelphia.
But it has only 1/3rd the density of LA. Famously car centric hellscape LA is 3(?!) times as dense as San Antonio.
I think physical proximity is part of what drives people in cities to vote more democratic. Texas Metro areas so so spread out they don’t generate the same voting trends.
The winds of change are blowing. The cities continue to grow and the rural counties populations in West Texas are shrinking, but it will take a very long time for the weight of urbanization to take hold in Texas politics the way it has in Georgia and Virginia.
The only good thing about his first term was he didn’t start new wars and he did, obliquely, end the war in Afghanistan with his petty checkmate Biden penultimate act in office.
Americans should have known he was a lying liar who lies but that part was true at the time.
I don’t think my fellow Americans understand anything more complicated than “It feels like this should be legal/illegal so someone needs to make it so.”
The longer I live the more I find that the truth is banal and stupid. Nobody is holding the reigns, they are just floating along on vibes.
Last time it took over half a million dead, including a president, and several constitutional amendments.
Slow decline into poverty, corruption, and insanity is more likely this time imo.
The checks said that actually the only check is the American people. They re elected him so there is nothing anyone else can do.
Or Elon stole it. Maybe someday will will know for sure.
This could also extend to killing men that you think are about to murder a woman.
Any man could be about to murder a woman they think is pregnant, and anyone has the right to protect their life or another’s.
This is just legalizing murder, full stop.
They wouldn’t interpret it that way, but a plain reading of the text supports it.

Gunfire would not necessarily panic people in the vicinity. If you are in a suburban setting, surrounded by 6 foot fences separating 2 story houses, a few shots could be mistaken for hammering, some kind of construction project. If I did think there was gunfire, I would go inside, and take shelter, not hang around to talk to cops.
I would never run toward cops period. They might shoot me.
I have fired guns and been around guns as they were fired, and I am not confident I would know the difference easily. Plenty of Americans have less experience with firearms than I do.
