Tribe was a great game at its time though

Why should Taiwan declare independence at all? Isnt it PRC that should declare independence from RoC? How can Taiwan declare independence from an entity they never where subservient of but who itself came from them? Not trying to troll, and I realize there is a power dynamic at play that might be the answer to my question. My brain just doesnt compute some things if they arent spelled out :)
