Watching Nintendo fumble console launches (sometimes whole generations) is one of the few constants in my life for the last 30 years. Dropping first party support for previous gens within 12 months, nothing compelling on the next gen for 18-24 months and now, egregious pricing for hardware and software. You’d think they’d learn what not to do, especially after doing it a half dozen times.

Is the Switch 2 really fumbled? I swear I just read the other day that they’ve sold more than predicted.

        Right?

Sold more than predicted at launch (wasn’t it one of the fastest selling consoles ever?), had a steady holiday (I assumed everyone that wanted a Switch 2 got one by Christmas or bought one as soon as they could because of tariff threats), then this spring I remember seeing they had really strong sales numbers again.

I would say it definitely was a success if we go by the numbers. That being said it’s pretty bad news for costumer protection that it didn’t fumble. Nintendo’s costumers will receive their wake up call in a few years when the console is outdated, servers shut down/moved to the next thing and games stop working without downloading crucial updates. Or when stick drifts start piling up alongside other problems.

My Switch and the pro controller got really bad stick drift . That was enough reason for me to not get a Switch 2 but there are so many more reasons why I think the platform kind of sucks and won’t end well despite it’s undeniable success. People just don’t care about any of that I guess. At least not yet.

I don’t know if I agree Nintendo customers will get upset that the console may “outdated” in a couple of years.

The Switch was outdated on day one. It struggled to render Kakariko Village in BotW at a steady frame rate. But did that really stop the system from selling millions? Not really. The average consumer kind of doesn’t care about that stuff.

That said, the Switch 2 is certainly more expensive than the Switch 1 so things may be different this time.

It’s lemmy. people just want to hate on anything that isn’t steam and linux pc gaming. also bitter that nintendo games can’t be purchased for like 75-90% off MSRP like most steam games.

the takes on here about the gaming industry are completely delusional if you start looking at numbers.

but it’s not about reality, it’s about their weird little console war mentalities that pc gaming is superior and gaben is the only good billionaire, and every other gaming company is evil and stupid.

Sorry, they can’t hear you over the slurping sounds of the Nintendo Defense Squad.

I guess raising the price of accessories didn’t bring in enough dough. After all, if the base console price is still too expensive, and the games are being priced upwards of $80 dollars, who the fuck would want to spend more on accessories?

I say this as someone who bought the Switch 2 Mario Kart World bundle at launch. Aside from Legends Z-A, Kirby Air Riders and Forgotten Land + Star Crossed Worlds, I haven’t put much time into other games on the system. I’ve been playing my Steam Deck more often. I’m thankful I got the Switch 2 at it’s “lowest price”. I’ve also decided to buy physical games because I can at least resell the games for credit towards another.

I’m able to play any game I want on my Deck, and I find it’s openness as a console-PC hybrid MUCH more appealing than the Switch 2. PC ports of Nintendo games are on the rise and I can’t wait for more!

If I want to play an old mario game from Wii u remade on switch it costs me $80 CAD, and that’s the whole problem. Bring back nintendo selects at $39.99 CAD.
