      Why’s that?

      I ask because a lot of people will tell you that the octane numbers on American gas are lower than European petrol, but actually the measurement systems are different. RON (research octane number) is a higher number than MON (motor octane number). Europe uses RON, the US uses (RON+MON)/2.

      Of course octane number isn’t an indication of quality either, but that’s a whole different issue.
