The travel industry is on edge after Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin reiterated his threat to withdraw U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers from airports in so-called “sanctuary cities” in a move that could jeopardize international flights.

The U.S. Travel Association said that Mullin confirmed he is considering withdrawing CPB officers in a meeting where the trade group was pressing its concerns about other proposals the Trump administration is considering that could hamper travel. U.S. Travel and the major airlines quickly condemned the idea, and even Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy said it doesn’t make sense to him.

…so those ports would just be open for anyone to come through? What’s to stop states from saying fuck it and leaving those ports of entry open.

Yeah I was going to say sounds like a win win. But I’m guessing instead they would just let no one through.

That said, entering this way could open you up criminal charges so it might stop some people from going through for that reason.

For an admin that bends to the will of airline lobbyists to end one of the longest shutdowns in history, they sure do love fucking over the airline industry.

He’s supposed to be a sock puppet for a billionaire class to be able to get what they want but he keeps doing things that damage them as well.

Who’s he managed to piss off so far, FIFA, The airline industry, the hotel industry, every ancillary business related to the world cup, the tourist industry, Disney, and finally basically any other business that operates in the United States that needs to import products from outside of the United States.

How is he still president? If I pissed off that many powerful people some of them would have had me killed.

Sounds like if they do this then those states and cities have every right to shutdown federal facilities there.

No international airports open/airports open without customs agents in New York, LA and other major hubs is sure to make for a successful World Cup in a couple weeks 😄

Why not just get rid of border security altogether since no one wants to get into the US right now anyway illegally or otherwise.

Also the World Cup tickets are now so expensive that a lot of people couldn’t afford to go even if they wanted to.
